World party music! West African flavors with a great jam sound. The Toubob Krewe switches effortlessly from one meter to the next with nothing but a fill in between. The jams change direction on a dime and the whole audience reacts. It's as if it's a whole new dance party with every transition and change of direction. The show at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC was packed with people all moving and dancing to this fantastic rhythm section. The percussion and the drum set contently pumping out sounds with double speed, syncaption and polyrythms that kept the crowd moving like a Mardi Gras party. Some of the tunes were perfectly recreated from the Orange Peel 09 disc, while later in the show the jams stretched out into new territory. This band is a must see if you like your music in a party atmosphere. Fun African instruments, melodies and beats.
